Partnership Model for Diffusion of Proven Prevention
This study examines youth problem behavior reduction resulting from
partnership-assisted interventions (Aim 1). In addition, partnership
processes are assessed to identify factors that positively affect
(a) the success of the partnerships from partner and outsider perspectives,
(b) the quality of implementation of interventions, and (c) institutionalization
of the partnership (Aim 2). Modeling of partnership and intervention-related
change mechanisms are planned. Results will guide application of the
partnership model to other communities in Iowa and Pennsylvania, and
subsequently, to other states.

Rural Youth and Family Competencies Building Project
The aims of this MERIT project are: (a) to conduct a controlled study
of a multicomponent youth and family competencies-building intervention
designed to enhance family- and youth-related protective factors, reduce
youth substance use risk factors, and delay the onset of youth substance
use; (b) conduct causal modeling of intervention-related change mechanisms
involving family- and peer-related protective process effects on targeted
outcomes; and (c) study factors influencing family members multicomponent
intervention participation and intervention skills implementation.

Rural Family and Community Drug Abuse Prevention Project
The aims of this project are: (a) to conduct follow up data from an
ongoing study of the Iowa Strengthening Families Program and the Preparing
for the Drug Free Years Program, in order to examine its long-term outcomes
among young adults; (b) to examine the course and developmental etiology
of substance use, abuse, and dependence from young adolescence to young
adulthood in; and (c) to examine the effects of adolescent substance
use on substance and other mental health and behavioral outcomes among
young adults raised in rural environments.
