Donald M. Kaesser, Ph.D.

Adults, couples, & families. Existential, gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, and logotherapy with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, sexuality difficulties, chemical dependency and addictions.

I have been a licensed psychologist and counselor for almost 20 years. My goals are to help people in addressing issues that have become obstacles in their lives and to help them meet their goals in the context of an honest, caring and direct professional relationship. Individual therapy, couples/relationship issues, substance abuse issues, depression, anxiety, grief, aging, sexuality issues as well as sexual orientation issues, and family matters are among the range of aspects of people's lives on which I effectively work. Counseling or therapy may be briefer and problem-oriented, or involve an extended therapy relationship depending on your needs. I also provide psychological testing, including career interest testing, personality inventories, and whatever psychological testing is needed to help in understanding your process and how it may be blocking your goals in life. When appropriate, I consult with other psychologists, social workers or mental health counselors within the practice to more fully understand and meet my client's needs.

I received my PhD. in counseling Psychology from Iowa State University where I studied process dimensions in psychotherapy for my dissertation. I have Board Certification from the American Psychological Association's College of Professional Psychology for treatment of substance use disorders and additional training in existential, gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, and logotheraputic approaches to my work. My work with you would likely be an eclectic blend of cognitive-behavioral, existential and humantistic positions. Prior to becoming a psychologist I taught psychology full time at DMACC for 15 years.

In additional to working with individuals ages 13 and older, couples and families, I also work with veterans of the armed forces and with seniors. I also work with businesses and as a workshop facilitator.

I love my work and it is 'my calling.'
