Jon Brandon, Ph.D.Adults and older adolescents (15-17) with a focus on relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and psychological testing. I am an Iowa Licensed Psychologist, and I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1999. I enjoy working with those in late adolescence and adulthood on a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, relationship problems, and trauma, among others. My primary therapeutic approach is integrative, and I incorporate modern approaches to cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused, and interpersonal therapeutic interventions. I believe that people often come to therapy struggling to cope with their emotional responses, so we may spend considerable time gaining insight into emotions and learning how to manage them. I also believe that the difficulties that bring people to counseling often developed as reactions to environmental stressors. At one time, these patterns of behavior and ways of responding may have been adaptive in the context of the individual's life. However, life circumstances change, and previously adaptive ways of responding to stressors may no longer be working, so people seek out counseling as a means of learning to cope with stressors in one's current life context. While I hold certain beliefs and approaches to be helpful in therapy, I also recognize that therapy is a highly individualized experience, and I work collaboratively with clients to help them reach their life goals. .
